[off recordings]

Just wanted to share the news here on the website. I, alongside fellow collaborators Joel Armstrong and SKAI, were recently signed to OFF Recordings! We’re incredibly excited to be on board with such a rad record label.

We have most of the release finished and ready to go — just wrapping up the last track. For this release, I did the vocals as Joel and SKAI tackle the production. It’s really sounding great, can’t wait for you to hear it, mates. Here’s some links:

[ae tutorial / carbon atom animation]

It’s amazing what you can do with just a few solids and one texture graphic. Including, creating an animation of the basic human building blocks, a carbon atom. Enjoy, cheers!

[a couple tunes i’m digging right now]

While perusing through some new stuff at Beatport, I came across a couple of tracks I really dig. I’m pretty excited about the way deep house has evolved the last year and how it’s become quite popular. Loving this style and hoping it continues.

Climbers – Go With The Flow (Original Mix) [Culprit]

Uffe – I’ll Leave Soon (Catz ‘n Dogz Just Leave Remix) [Pets]

[Chomsky: How the Young Are Indoctrinated to Obey]

Whether you always agree with him or not, Noam Chomsky has a unique ability to write compelling, thought-provoking notions of systemic domestic problems. Check out the article he recently wrote about our education system’s so-called indoctrination of the young.

“Ralph Waldo Emerson observed that political leaders call for popular education because they fear that “This country is filling up with thousands and millions of voters, and you must educate them to keep them from our throats.” But educated the right way: Limit their perspectives and understanding, discourage free and independent thought, and train them for obedience.”

[the dot / shake it (noah desmit remix)]

I have a new remix out on Beatport March 28th on hi-life! Records. Bit of a dark, groovy number. Added a few melodies and chopped up the synth and vocals quite a bit. Clip below. Thanks for the support!

*edit: here’s the [beatport link]. Cheers!

[super bowl spot]

I had the great privilege of having a commercial spot in the Super Bowl for the West Michigan DMA. This is a Pizza Hut spot getting the word out about their $10 any pizza deal. Sound delicious? Well it is, friends, believe me. This commercial is fantastic largely because of the talent: Jordan Carson. She’s a great actress and an even better person. Happy to shoot her in a spot any day!

Re-branding and re-launching a TV station is… a lot of work. A small but very important part of the multifaceted process belongs to the image spots. Here’s the main :30 image spot I just finished last week. It features everyone in our “crew”, shot on an infinity wall with a 5D MKII and composited post production in After Effects.

[tutorials / basic tracking]

If you don’t have time for silly things such as tripods, it may be advantageous and potentially cool to use the tracker in After Effects. It’s a great tool that allows you to connect multiple elements to moving video.

[how games make kids smarter]

Since I purchased my PS3 last year, I’ve become much more of a gamer than I was previously. Some of these games are ridiculously challenging. Portal 2, for example, takes advanced and creative problem solving skills in order to progress through the levels. This TED talk features Gabe Zichermann as he talks on the subject of video games and how they can make us better at problem-solving, multitasking and more.

[tutorials / basic 3D reflection]

Had my first go at a tutorial. I hope it helps! Clearly I need screen capture software with a higher frame rate (Quicktime Screen Recorder isn’t getting those 10-frame-long movements, ha). I would like to do more, keeping it pretty basic. If you have any requests and I’m able to do it, I’ll try and manage.

Thanks for watching.
